When I was making "Maplewillow" in my studio, I was thinking about how much beauty lives in our private inner worlds. On the outside, she looks forward with calm serenity, steady eyes, and an open heart. But inside, there is a brilliant, fiery spark of passion, creativity, and strength waiting to be poured into everything she creates. She is a tribute to those gentle souls who move through life softly, yet carry an immense, glowing warmth within.
This one-of-a-kind art mug is completely hand-built and sculpted by me in rich clay, then fired in my old-school electric kiln. Her face features delicate hand-painted features with a soft wash of red blush, a raised sculpted nose, and fine antique crazing across the porcelain-toned surface.
Framing her face is a flowing wash of rich chestnut and dark amber hair that leads into a sturdy, tactile side handle, giving the piece a wonderfully rustic and organic feel in your hands.
