I have always believed our creative spaces and living rituals deserve a touch of magic, especially the quiet, intuitive magic that only a cat can bring into a room.
When I was making "Michi" in my studio, I wanted to capture that wise, slightly mischievous gaze that every cat lover knows by heart. Cats have a way of seeing right through the ordinary, watching the world with endless curiosity and grounding us with their steady, silent presence. This piece is a tribute to those independent, mysterious little familiars who make a house feel truly alive and full of soul.
This one-of-a-kind art vessel is completely hand-built and carved by me in rich clay, then fired in my old-school electric kiln. The flared rim shapes naturally into two sweet, pointed cat ears, while the body features a hand-carved tuxedo face with deeply etched whiskers, little carved paws along the scalloped base, and almond eyes painted in glowing olive tones. Fine crazing runs through the cream-colored center, giving the face an earthy, antique warmth.
Finished in brushed smoky charcoal and soft matte earth glazes on the outside, the interior opens into a stunning, glossy pool of deep plum and orchid glaze, creating a delightful surprise every time you look inside.
Generously open and sturdy, this vessel is perfectly shaped to hold fresh garden cuttings, a small potted succulent, favorite studio brushes, precious trinkets, or simply sit on your desk, kitchen shelf, or altar as a daily companion watching over your space.
