I have always believed our creative spaces and living rituals deserve a touch of magic, especially the nostalgic kind found in timeless childhood fairytales.
Little Red Riding Hood has always been one of my absolute favorite tales. There is something endlessly captivating about the journey into the deep, mysterious woods: the thrill of adventure, the quiet courage of stepping off the beaten path, and the wild world waiting among the trees. I love to re-tell this story every chance I get, bringing my own whimsical twist to its characters through clay.
When I was making "The Forest Path" in my studio, I wanted the story to unfold naturally inside the piece itself.
This one-of-a-kind art bowl is completely hand-built and sculpted by me in rich clay, then fired in my old-school electric kiln.
Around the exterior, the bowl is wrapped in deeply carved botanical stems and blooming flowers. But the real story begins when you look inside: tucked along the inner walls are three delicate hand-sculpted relief figures. On one side, sweet Little Red walks along in her vibrant crimson cloak. On the other, the curious wolf wanders through the mossy shadows, while a sculpted evergreen pine tree stands tall between them, framing their legendary woodland encounter.
I finished the piece in layered glazes of misty forest teal, soft sage, and deep pine, allowing the pooling glaze to mimic deep, sun-dappled woodland waters.
With its organic, hand-pinched rim and wide bowl shape, this piece is perfectly sized to hold delicate treasures, keep your favorite crystals safe on an altar, serve as a centerpiece on your coffee table, or simply sit on a shelf as a sweet storybook talisman.
