I have always believed our creative spaces and living rituals deserve a touch of magic, especially the mysterious, joyful kind that comes from the deep ocean and ancient maritime folklore.
When I was making "The Siren’s Deep" in my studio, I wanted to celebrate the beauty of full, curved sirens gliding effortlessly through calm waters. In so many old myths, mermaids are shown as distant or elusive, but here they are joyful, grounded, and thriving in their own element.
Two sweet, chubby sirens swim along the vessel walls, their hands gently meeting to hold a soft sea leaf together in a shared moment of harmony, surrounded by lush aquatic foliage while a school of little fish circles playfully above them along the rim.
This one-of-a-kind art vessel is completely hand-built and intricately carved by me in rich clay, then fired in my old-school electric kiln. The sirens feature creamy porcelain-toned bodies with delicate crackle details, rosy cheeks, and flowing sunny-yellow hair that contrasts against their dark, spotted tails.
Along the upper edge, hand-sculpted fish form an open, whimsical crown around the wide rim, creating a dynamic silhouette from every single angle.
Finished in deep ocean teal, stormy sea greens, mossy browns, and warm crackled glazes, the piece carries the weathered, timeless soul of an artifact gathered from an ancient sunken reef.
With its wide, sturdy bowl shape, this vessel is wonderfully versatile. It is perfectly designed to hold fresh water with floating blossoms, a lush potted succulent or fern, favorite studio brushes, precious seashells, or simply stand on your shelf or altar as a daily celebration of feminine grace, joyful curves, and oceanic wonder.
